5 XIAN JIAN BU HEN WAN (It's Not Too Late))

Originally sung by Bia Guang,
the song portrays a woman desperately trying to get her lover
back.
6. QI YI DE AI QING (Magic Love)
Vocalist: Coco Zhao Ke
A particularly catchy tune given
special texture by the inclusion of Er Hu leading the melody besides
Clarinet and Tenor Saxophone.

7. AVALON
Instrumental
A first World War song that
was a standard in Jazz clubs the world over, made famous by Stephane
Grapelli and Django Rheinhardt. This version, with the addition
of Er Hu and a chorus of Pi Pas, is how it just may have sounded
in the heyday of Old Shanghai.

8. JIN XIAO DUO ZHEN ZHONG
(Let's Love Tonight and Leave Tomorrow Behind)
Vocalist: Coco Zhao Ke
A popular song performed by
many local artists of the period. Though the origins of the melody
are unknown, the lyrics are credited to Yi Ming.
9. YE SHANGHAI (Night in
Shanghai)
Instrumental
shanghai's quintessential "Theme
Song, " made famous by Zhou Xuan, perhaps the biggest
local star of the forties and fifties, whose photos are so often
used in asociation with Shanghai's Golden Era. Reportedly the
lyrics also are about a prostitute.
10. MO LI HUA (Jasmine Flower)
Vocalist: Carrie Zhang Le
A very familiar melody and traditional
song, originally from Jiangsu Province, near Shanghai. Jazzed
up with Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone and Violin such that some
have said it even sounds a bit Braziian!
